The origin of PCS *rŝṣ̂ ̣ ‘to smash’ is uncertain. Leslau (EDG 529) compares Muh. Msq. Gog. arṭärräṭä, Cha. Gyt. arṭänäṭä, Eža arṭännäṭä ‘to be about to break (wood), to become very old.’
