Possibly a loanword from Aramaic (Cherry 2017:210). Cf. JBA piṭṭūrā ‘fungus’, Syr. peṭṭortā ‘fungi’ (LSyr. 565). See further Arb. fuṭr- ‘a species of fungus, white and large, and deadly’ (Lane 2416), Rabb. Hbr. piṭrā ‘eine Schwammart, etwa Morcheľ (Levy 4, 32).
