Or. bannu. Akk. bannu has been considered a loanword from Sum. BAN₂ ‘a measure; a container’ (PSD B 81), see Oppenheim 1948:10, fn. 28, AHw. 102, SLOB No. 84. This etymology is rather doubtful (Veenhof 1970:35).
