Akk. pīḳat (and vars.) ‘perhaps’ is commonly derived from
piāḳu ‘to (be) narrow’. This etymology is not improbable, but one has to admit that the semantic development from ‘to (be) narrow’ to ‘perhaps’ is not self-evident.
