No definitive etymology can be suggested. With AHw. and CDA, pappaltu could be a feminine form of
pappasu ‘porridge’ (cf. pappaltu in abakery memorandum, which is clearly derived from pappasu, see Postgate 1994:14), but this is far from evident from the semantic point of view.
