baˀû - to seek, desire (SAD 1 23)

An Aramaic origin proposed by Parpola (apud Reynolds 2003, 125 n. to l. 19) cannot be excluded since the Aramaic root b-ˁ-y is widely attested in the basic stem (SL 169, DJPA 107, DJBA 224).
