Throughout EthS this preposition exists only in combination with the element lV. In several languages adverbs of the *lVˁl- type are also attested: see Syr. ləˁal ‘upward, above’, Min. l-ˁl, ‘upward (vers le haut)’ (LM 31), Mnd. lilai ‘upwards’.
