It is uncertain whether ˀšr was the Samalian term for “place,” as in both of its attestations (KAI 214:27: [ˀ]ḥh yršy šḥt b-ˀšr ḥd ˀyḥyh; KAI 214:31‒32: w-hnw lw šḥt b-ˀšrh) b-ˀšr can be translated “with respect to” rather than “in the place”/“in the territory of,” cf. Tropper 1993a:95, Dion 1974:33.
