Syriac

ḥarṭūmā - proboscis (of elephant) (LSyr. 256)

PCS
*ḫarṭūm- - (long) nose, beak, trunk, etc. (SED I No. 137)
Likely derived from *ḫuṭm- ‘nose, snout, muzzle, beak’ (No. 139) through insertion of r; one wonders whether it may be the result of metathesis of r suffixed or of contamination with some unidentified root. C. Sem. only unless Akk. ḫuṭṭimmu ‘snout, muzzle’ SB on [CAD Ḫ 265] is an assimilated form from *ḫurṭimmu (otherwise see in *ḫuṭm- ‘nose, snout, muzzle, beak’, No. 139).
