The exact origin of the Aramaic forms cannot be ascertained. The underlying prototype *parpaḫīn- is not compatible with Sumerian {babbar.ḫi} and early Akkadian
papparḫû
‘purslane’, but comes very close to the later Akkadian forms (EDA I 392).
