tamāḫu - to seize, to grasp; to control (AHw 1312, CAD T 107)

The Akkadian verb is hard to separate from Pho. tmk 'to take, to seize', and Hbr. tmk 'to hold, to grasp', very similar both phonologically and semantically. The irregular correspondence -k vs. -ḫ is deemed to remain without explanation.
