tāl- - young date-palms, palm saplings (LA 11 96)

tāl- = ṣiġāru n-naḫli wa-fasīluhu (LA 11 96). The word is also attested in the modern dialects of Iraq (DIA 53). The word is probably an Aramaism (cf. JBA tālətā 'species of date palm' and Mnd. tala 'young date palm'), while in Aramaic it is considered to be a loanword from Akk. tālu 'young date palm' (see the etymological discussion under the entry).
