Tigrinya

dəka - poor, poverty-stricken, destitute (TED 2142)

May be related to the present root with a metaphoric shift of meaning (well attesested for this root in Hebrew) rather than borrowed from Cushitic as suggested by Leslau in EDG 204.

PWS
*dky - to crush (EDA II)

Originally a biconsonantal element, which in WS is also attested as *dkk and *dwk. See also Akk. dâku 'to kilľ.
