According to Leslau [CDG 640], from Gez. (no argumentation given); cf. zäläb id. [CDG 1608] with ­l­, which Leslau also considers a loan from Gez. [CDG 640] (cf., however, [Leslau Loanwords 34], where the same word is considered an Arabism).
