There are good reasons to suspect that Arb. quddām- ‘in front (of)’ is due to Aramaic influence. While it is true that quddām- as naqīḍu warāˀin is mentioned in LA 12 42, one will not lose sight of the fact that both examples of the prepositional use quoted in Fr. III 410 are taken from an Arabic translation of Gospels. One wonders to what extent the broad presence of quddām in (pre-)modern Arabic dialects (Dozy II 324, 689, BH 689, Behnstedt 980) can be accounted for by Aramaic influence.
