Probably related to Akk. nagāšu ‘to leave, to go away’, in which case the transitive meaning “to drive” may be regarded as a common innovation of CS/EthS. Conversely, there is hardly any connection between this root and Mhr. nəgūŝ ‘to shake milk for butter’, Jib. ngɔŝ id.
