Arabic

ḫamr- - wine (Lane 808)

Contra Fraenkel 1886:161, one hesitates to qualify the Arabic word as an Aramaism.

PCS
*ḫamr- - wine (Fronzaroli 1971: 624, 635, 641; Kogan 2011: 241; Kogan 2015: 418)
Likely related to the verbal root *ḫmr ‘to foam, to ferment,’ attested, outside CS, also in Tigre and MSAOutside Aramaic, it is only Arb. ḫamr- that functions as the main term for “wine”. Attestations of PCS *ḫamr- in the Canaanite area are marginal, the main terms with the meaning “wine” always go back to *wayn-.
