This preposition is usually considered to be a variant of *kV (with the enclitic -ma). However, the fact that in most languages it is used alongside with *kV and that in several languages only forms of this type are attested allows to speak of the independent status of this preposition (Tropper 2000:781, Arakelova 2001:19–20).
