PCS *nḳm ‘to take revenge’ is clearly related to Gez. ḳim ‘revenge,’ taḳayyama ‘to take vengeance’. Probably, n- in the CS forms represents a fossilized reflexive marker (Nöldeke (1910:180)).
*nVš-ūma - women
(Kogan 2011: 233; Kogan 2015: 195)
According to a widely accepted theory (Bauer–Leander 1927:617, DUL
650, Huehnergard 1987a:77, Krebernik 1985:54), PCS *nVš-ūma ‘women’ represents a semantic narrowing of an original meaning “people,” thought to be
preserved in Akk. niš-ū and Ugr. nš-m
PCS
*nšm - to breathe
(SED I No. 50ᵥ; Kogan 2015: 217)
The origin is uncertain, but, as surmised already in LSyr. 451 and HALOT 730, this root cannot be separated from *nšb and *nšp, perhaps also *npš with comparable meanings (cf. SED I Nos. 47ᵥ,
49ᵥ, 51ᵥ).
